The Theatergesellschaft Entlebuch (Engl. Theatre Society Entlebuch) was founded in 1837 as an association, following earlier theatre activities in Entlebuch in a loose alliance since 1834. Every few years the society presents a lavish operetta production that involves around 200 participants, most of them being locals and amateurs.[1]

Since the 1920s, operetta has been the core of the repertoire. On their website, the Theatergesellschaft Entlebuch lists 65 theatre productions from 1834 to 2017[2], including the following selection:

  • 1842: Die Beatushöhle (Josef Bucher)
  • 1856: Der Graf von Burgund (August von Kotzebue)
  • 1884: Der versiegelte Bürgermeister (Ernst Raupach)
  • 1896: Aus Liebe zur Kunst (Konradi/G. von Moser)
  • 1908: Preciosa (Carl Maria v. Weber/Pius Alex Wolff)
  • 1929: Der Vogelhändler (Carl Zeller/M. West und L. Held)
  • 1954: Der Bettelstudent (Carl Millöcker/Zell und Genée)
  • 1965: Försterchristel (Georg Jarno/ Bernhard Buchbinder)
  • 1990: Im Weissen Rössl (Ralph Benatzky)
  • 2002: Die lustige Witwe (Franz Lehár)
  • 2017: Madame Pompadour (Leo Fall)

Venue

Over the course of decades and centuries, the Theatergesellschaft Entlebuch most often used the Port Hotel as a venue for their productions.[3]
