Theatergesellschaft Entlebuch

From Amateur Theatre Wiki

The Theatergesellschaft Entlebuch (Engl. Theatre Society Entlebuch) was founded in 1837 as an association, following earlier theatre activities in Entlebuch in a loose alliance since 1834. The society is located in the municipality Entlebuch, Canton Luzern, Switzerland, and has been active until today. Every few years the society presents a lavish operetta production that involves around 200 participants, most of them being locals and amateurs.[1]

Repertoire

In its beginnings, the Theatergesellschaft Entlebuch staged mainly drama, often with historical or patriotic subjects. Towards the end of the 19th century there was a shift towards musical comedy. Since the 1920s, operetta has been the core of the repertoire. On their website, the Theatergesellschaft Entlebuch lists 65 theatre productions from 1834 to 2017[2], including the following selection:

  • 1842: Die Beatushöhle (Josef Bucher)
