Theater- und Musikliebhabergesellschaft Luzern

From Amateur Theatre Wiki

The Theater- und Musikliebhabergesellschaft in Luzern (Engl. Theatre and Music Amateur Society of Lucerne) was founded in 1806.[1]

History

The Society shared in the stock company which initially owned the city theatre (Stadttheater Luzern). Members of the society were also involved in the city theatre’s opening in 1838 in a production of Wilhelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller.[2]

In the following decades, the Theater- und Musikliebhabergesellschaft recurrently performed at the city theatre and thus the ensemble was a regular feature among the alternating touring theatre ensembles that mainly provided the programme.

Contemporary Activity

The former Theater- und Musikliebhabergesellschaft in Luzern still exists under the name of Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft Luzern (Engl. General Music Society).[2]
