Kulturkeller Winkel

From Amateur Theatre Wiki

The Kulturkeller Winkel existed between 2017 and 2021. It emerged from the Jungintendanz (Young Artistic Direction) at Luzern Theatre. The word Kulturkeller ('culture basement') was located in the basement of Luzern Theatre.

History

The project grew out of a collaboration with the study program "Social Work" at Luzern College and started with a call for applications. From the applications, eight young artists from all fields (aged between 17 and 25) were selected to form the Jungintendanz. Without any limitations to their choice of artistic means or genres, these young people were free to use Kulturkeller Winkel for their works. They were obliged though to perform two public events per month and to involve four different groups for working in the premises. They hence acted like a host to artistic residencies and like a free lance theatre institution, as well as a company for theatre and art production. Particularly in the beginning, Kulturkeller Winkel was funded by Luzern theatre and also supported in regard to infrastructure.[1]

After the premises of Kulturkeller Winkel had been dismantled the remaining members of the group formed a collective by the name of Kollektiv Winkel to continue working on projects. They had theatre productions in 2022 and 2024. Currently the collective comprises eight people, not all of them being involved in all projects though.[2]
