The Canterbury Old Stagers (OS) are considered to be the oldest surviving amateur theatre society in Britain. The group was founded in 1842 by Hon. Frederick Ponsonby (later Earl of Bessborough) to provide evening entertainment during the cricket week in Canterbury. The group have performed annually since then, except for during the two world wars and the covid-19 pandemic.
