The Kulturkeller Winkel existed between 2017 and 2021 it formed out of the Jungintendanz (young artistic direction) at Luzern theatre. The word Kulturkeller losely translates to culture basement, as it was situated in the basement of the theatre. Kulturkeller Winkel was a cooperation between the Luzern theatre and the social work degree of Luzern College out of all the applicants eight were chosen for the direction which were artists of all genres between 17 and 25 years of age at the time.

At Kulturkeller Winkel the main principle was that everybody involved could try out their skills in all the areas of work. The young people leading the direction had complete artistic freedom, except that there had to be two public events per month and the space had to be used by four different groups of people regardless whether it was for performances or rehearsals. Therefore offering residencies and operating like a freelancing theatreinstitution as well as company. Especially during the beginning of the Kulturkeller Winkel the group was supported by the Luzern theatre with financial and material resources. [1]

After the premises of Kulturkeller were dismantled the remaining people formed a collective which is called Kollektiv Winkel, and works on a projectbased manner. There were premieres in 2022 and 2024. At the moment (january 2025) the collective consists of eight people although not everyone is part of all the projects.[2]
