John Halls Amatörteater

In the Gothenburg of the late 18th century , the bourgeoise had a vivid interest in amateur theatre. One of the prominent figures in amateur theatre circles around that time was John Hall, a well-situated bourgeois salesman originally from Scotland. Probably in 1775, Hall built a private theatre in his home, which was used for the purpose of private bourgeois amateur theatre. The theatre salon is said to have been situated close to the garden, in the west of the house. Hall also arranged balls that followed the theatre performances. The theatre was torn down in the 1960's.
