Freilichtbühne is an amateur theatre performing on an open air stage (732 seats) during the summer months (one production for young audiences, one production for adult audiences) and on the stage of Zimmertheater (83 seats) during autumn and winter. They have a children's club (age 9-14 years, rehearsing weekly) and a youth club (age 14-19 years, rehearsing weekly) and an amateur choir in addition to their acting ensemble. The currently have ca. 400 members. The perform drama and engage in all aspects of the productions, no professionals are involved. In 2015 they received the award Landesamateurtheaterpreis LAMATHEA for their production of ''Das Geheimnis der Irma Vep.''

== History ==
In 1913 a dramatic society (Dramatischer Club) was founded in Mannheim-Waldhof, that regularly performed in the community hall at St. Franziskus. From 1950 on they started performing on an open air stage and renamed the society accordingly in Freilichtbühne (literal translation: Open Air Stage). In 1956, they moved the indoor stage to the local inn located on the grounds of the open air stage in Mannheim-Gartenstadt, Kirchwaldstr. 10.
